Announced
- On Friday, Mayor Linda Gorton recommended local nonprofit “Friends of the Kentucky Theatre” be awarded the management contract for the historic downtown venue. The Kentucky Theatre has been closed temporarily since Oct. 2020. City council is expected to take an initial vote on the contract on Thurs., Sept. 30. 📽️

- Lady Remoulade — a Cajun-Creole French fusion restaurant — will be taking over the former Flag Fork Herb Farm Garden and Café at 900 N. Broadway. Lady Remoulade is a casual, fine-dining concept from the group who originally opened downtown’s Roulay. It’s expected to be open by the end of 2021. 🦐 (Lexington Herald-Leader)
Drink
- Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii — who opened their first location near campus in Aug. — announced a second location is coming to Beaumont Centre. The exact opening date has yet to be decided, but they are actively hiring for multiple positions. ☕️
- Kenwick Table — a community-centered coffee shop + wine bar on Owsley Ave. — opened their doors on Fri., Sept. 24. To start, the spot will operate weekdays from 7 a.m.-8 p.m. and Sat., 8 a.m.-8 p.m.🍷
Traffic
- A shoulder on Newtown Pike will be closed because of construction of a turn lane by the new Amazon facility. The shoulder is used by pedestrians and cyclists to bypass a closed section of the Legacy Trail + is expected to reopen after construction is completed near the end of Oct. 🚧 (Lexington Herald-Leader)

- Local baker Brandi Romines — known on IG as @kycakemaker — is making her national television debut on Netflix’s “Baking Impossible.” The owner of Happy as a Lark Cakes is 1 of 9 contestants competing for $100,000. The show premiers on Wed., Oct. 6. 🧁 (Lexington Herald-Leader)

- Barton 1792 distillery just completed a $25-million warehouse expansion project last week. The addition of 3 new warehouses will allow the Bardstown-based bourbon brand to increase barrel storage by 25%. We’ll drink to that. 🥃 (The Lane Report)

- Local artist Alex K. Mason — whose designs can be seen in the Queen's Gambit Harmon Room at 21C Hotel — is hosting a gallery talk at the Headley-Whitley Museum on Sun., Oct. 3 at 1:30 p.m. Her artwork is featured in the museum’s current exhibit “Informed by Nature.” 🎨 (Lexington Herald-Leader)
Plan Ahead
- Lexington Philharmonic’s Queens Rule — originally scheduled for Sat., Oct. 16 — has been postponed until Sat., April 9, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets will go back on sale in November. The show will feature music including the theme from Netflix’s “The Queen’s Gambit.” 👑 (Lexington Philharmonic)
Civic
- A proposal to use $15 million of federal coronavirus relief money for supplemental pay to essential workers was voted into the city council’s agenda for their next meeting. The funds could be given to up to 1,700 city employees. (Lexington Herald-Leader)
Chevy Chase’s four-legged celebrity Darleigh Duarte was caught taking a stroll through the neighborhood this weekend. You can catch Lexington’s little sensation in all her adorable glory prancing around Central Ave. in the warmer months.
