South of Wrigley, 472 Southland Dr. | One of Lexington’s newest restaurants, this joint serves up classic Chicago-style dogs + Italian beef sandwiches.
Sam’s Hot Dog Stand, 105 N. Limestone | Small, quaint + always delicious — this downtown staple provides a quick, budget-friendly lunch. Editor’s choice: City Editor Aaron often stops in here for lunch and orders two hot dogs with mustard, relish, onion + jalapeños.
Boonedogs Bar and Restaurant, 5902 Old Richmond Rd. | This local eatery serves up gourmet hot dogs, cocktails + craft beer in a peaceful setting — surrounded by rolling hills and horse farms on the south end of town. Pro tip: The Kentucky Dog is a unique spin on the classic Chicago-style dog — chow chow, sport peppers, house pickles, tomato + everything seasoning.
Double Dogs, 1916 Justice Dr. | Stop by this Hamburg-based restaurant after your next Costco run.
Pro tip: Don’t let the name fool you — this place also serves up wings, salads, sandwiches + more.
Da Dawg House, 101 W. Loudon Ave. | This mom + pop-style joint is located inside Greyline Station and serves up delicious dogs with dozens of customizable topping options.
Pro tip: The banana pudding tastes homemade — because it is.
Mama Dee’s Coney Island, 340 E. New Circle Rd. | The menu features classic coney-style dogs — chili, mustard + onion — but also boasts chili cheese fries, reuben sandwiches, and seafood gumbo.
D’s Cafe, 1818 Bryan Station Rd. | This might be one of the few places you can still go to get a $5 lunch — a hotdog lunch combo is $5.30

Downtown Lexington is looking like it got a fresh coat of paint — the redesigned Central Bank Center, LexArts Horse Mania horses’ debut, and the nearly completed Town Branch Commons Trail. We’ve always been famous for our rural landscape, but pretty soon, people are going to start talking about the beauty of our urban core.

Editor's pick: I absolutely love Chicago-style hotdogs. If I'm not snagging one from South of Wrigley, I'm making them for my family's camping trips. They're really easy to prep and definitely level-up a campfire hotdog. You can pre chop all of the ingredients, store them in the cooler, and then add them to your hotdog after you've roasted it over an open fire.
